ERCO Round Vinyl Flush Mount

Materials: Brass curved rods. Gold coloured anodised aluminium. Some early plastic, vinyl canvas. Metal gold coloured ring around the canvas. Decorated with autumn leaves in brown and yellow. Red Bakelite ceiling mount with 3 E27 lamp sockets.

Height: 14 cm / 5.51”

Width: ∅ 65 cm / 25.59”

Electricity: 3 bulbs E27, 3 x 60 watt maximum, 110/220 volt.
Any type of light bulb can be used, not a specific one preferred. 

Period: 1950s, 1960s – Mid-Century Modern.

Other versions: This ERCO round vinyl flush mount exists in many variations. Several drawings on the canvas were used for this lamp. Also made in glass with various designs. These flush mounts were made in a few sizes. The canvas can easily be removed. He’s pinched between the curved bars, not attached. 

ERCO

ERCO was founded in 1934 by Arnold Reininger (1907-2003), Karl Reeber and Paul Buschhaus in Lüdenscheid, Germany. The company name ERCO represents a phonetic abbreviation of the founding name “Reininghaus & Co.“.

The company is still in family ownership. During the early years, ERCO produced parts for lamps. In particular a spring-supported retracting mechanism for pendant lamps.

In the 1930’s the industrial production of complete luminaires was started. After World War II Arnold Reininger and Karl Reeber continued the company. Co-founder Paul Buschhaus had died in the war.

Designers that worked for the ERCO company are, among others: Aloys Ferdinand Gangkofner, Roger Tallon, Ettore Sottsass, Emilio Ambasz. Shiro Kuramata, Giancarlo Piretti, Dieter Witte,  Yves Béhar. Knud Holscher, Franco Clivio, Naoto Fukasawa and many others.
