Electricity: 3 bulbs E14, 3 x 60 watt maximum, 110/220 volt.
Any type of light bulb with an E14 socket can be used. But a white/opaque or frosted one is preferred.

Period: 1960s, 1970s – Mid-Century Modern.

Other versions: This chrome and amber veined glass chandelier exists in many versions and sizes. Also produced as table lamps, floor lamps, flush mounts and sconces.

These chandeliers are always sold as lamps produced by AV Mazzega, but they are not. An old employee of the Massive factory told us that it was a lamp they sold. They were also sold by other companies as you can see below. Unfortunately a search on SILA sas gave no result. Too bad, because the majority of these lamps has no label. An incredible amount was sold in those years, in all possible variations. You find them everywhere in Europe. Very similar lamps were made by the Italian company Tappital.

An e-mail to AV Mazzega gave this as an answer: (translated from Italian to English) “I do not exclude they may be our lamps but I can not even give you the certainty. They are lamps that date back to many years ago where a management or photographic samples was not used.
I’m sorry I can not help you with other data but in our technical department I could not find anything that could bring back to these lamps.” 

DORIA

The 3 amber and clear crystal glass globes are made by the German company DORIA. Somewhere in the past there was a replacement of the original ones. These ones are in the “style” of the old ones.

Massive 

Massive was in origin a bronze foundry and they produced mainly candlesticks, crucifixes and chandeliers in Wilrijk near Antwerp, Belgium. The company was founded in 1926 by Pieter-Jozef De Jaeck. His son Eddy De Jaeck was responsible for the huge expansion of the company in the 1970s. But it were his sons, Piet and Jan De Jaeck who made Massive a true multinational. Thus, they moved production to Eastern Europe and China.

In the 1980s Massive became the leading brand in Europe. In 2002, the brothers left the company to the investment fund CVC Capital Partners, for allegedly more than 250 million euros. Since 2008 the company is owned by Philips and the name of the shops is changed into Light Gallery.

When the takeover by Philips was announced in November 2006 Massive commercialised more than 10.000 lighting products under brand names such as Massive, TRIO and Lirio. The group had about 5.000 employees worldwide and was active in 70 countries.

Massive sold many lamps made by others. Peill + Putzler from Germany and Yamada Shomei from Japan produced lamps for Massive, to name a few. Many other lighting companies did.

AV Mazzega

AV Mazzega was founded in 1946 by Angelo Vittorio Mazzega. In 1950 his son Gianni Bruno Mazzega started working in the family’s glass factory. Gianni Bruno Mazzega is responsible for the creation of many beautiful lamps, maybe this one.

Today, under the watchful eye of Andrea Mazzega, grandson of Angelo Vittorio, the company works together with high-level international designers. Andrea is the president of the company since 2000.

The most famous designer of the company is Carlo Nason. He started to work for the company in the late 1960s. Several of his designs are on display here on Vintageinfo.
