La Murrina
The La Murrina company was founded in 1968 as a small business started by a group of glass-worker masters. La Murrina is renowned for its innovative lighting designs, combining traditional Murano glass techniques with modern design elements.
The company has collaborated with several prominent designers and architects, including Ettore Sottsass, Lino Tagliapietra, Dorian & Massimiliano Fuksas, Marcello Albini, Matteo Thun, Antonio Rodriguez, Paolo Deganello, Oscar Tusquets Blanca, and Karim Rashid. These collaborations have resulted in a diverse range of contemporary glass art, lighting fixtures, and decorative items that showcase the unique craftsmanship of Murano glass.
In 1974, La Murrina was bought by a family from Milan. Today they are located at Via Isonzo, 26, 22078 Turate (Co), Italy. The furnace is still on the Murano island and located at Riva Longa, 17 – Murano Venice, Italy.
Lino Tagliapietra is the most well known designer of the company. He designed numerous lamps and objects for La Murrina in the seventies.
Lino Tagliapietra:
“I don’t invent anything new; I personalise something … and that makes it something that nobody has done before.”
It is unclear whether the company still exists. The official website has been offline since 2021.
