Other versions: The Antonio Pavia crane table lamp was made in several variations.

Antonio Pavia

Not much to be found about the designer, unfortunately. He designed many table and floor lamps in this style. All with a white silk shade. Often with 3 or more lampshades and with crane birds or herons and all made in brass. Wall lamps in the form of butterflies were also made, also with silk shades. Antonia Pavia was not only a lamp designer. He also designed furniture, chairs and utensils. Sometimes his lamps are signed with the AP logo, often not.

Other designers that created lamps in this style at that period were Gabriella Crespi and Lanciotto Galeotti. Also the Belgian Massive company produced many brass table lamps with birds.

For this table lamp the shell of a nautilus was used. Nautilus is a genus of squid from the Nautilidae family. Nautiluses originated during the Cambrian period, around 500 million years ago, from squids.

Vimar

The electric parts of this crane table lamp were made by Vimar, an Italian company located in Marostica, some 100 km (60 miles) from Venice.

Vimar was founded at the end of World War II, on May Day 1945. They started in a former hat factory with the production of products for the residential use of electricity. All based on elements obtained by molding thermosetting resin.

The Vimar company still exists. Today it specializes in wiring devices, H&B automation, door entry systems, safety & security equipment, sockets and plugs and plant infrastructure.

Lamps in the movies!

An Antonio Pavia table lamp was used as a prop in the French comedy drama film Le Chapeau De Mitterrand (The President’s Hat) from 2016. Starring Frédéric Diefenthal, Frédérique Bel and Roland Giraud.
