Esteve Aparicio Barba
Esteve Aparicio Barba was a Spanish designer active in the early 1960s. He is best known for the Galaxia desk/table lamp, designed in 1961, an adjustable metal lamp that became a small icon of Spanish industrial lighting design. The lamp received the Gold Delta (Delta d’Or) award at the ADI-FAD Premis Delta in 1961.
In vintage and commercial sources, the designer’s name is frequently abbreviated or incorrectly listed as “Enrique Aparicio ”; however, Esteve Aparicio Barba is the name used in official ADI-FAD and museum documentation.
The Gold Delta awarded in 1961, the first year of the ADI-FAD Delta Awards, was shared by several lighting designs, including the Galaxia desk lamp by Esteve Aparicio Barba for Galaxia, a pendant lamp by Ferran Freixa for Manbar, and the TMC floor lamp by Miguel Milà for Tramo.
Galaxia
Galaxia was a Spanish lighting company based in Barcelona, active in the early 1960s. The company is primarily documented through the Galaxia desk lamp designed by Esteve Aparicio Barba in 1961, which received the Gold Delta (Delta d’Or) at the ADI-FAD Premis Delta. Original examples are stamped “GALAXIA ” in the metal, confirming branded production. Despite this, little further documentation—such as catalogues or additional models—appears to have survived or been digitised.
