Costa Dragonfly Table Lamp

Materials: Hand painted white glazed ceramics table lamp with faux bamboo edges. Decorated with a yellow, blue and red dragonfly or damsel-fly. Fabric lampshade with willows, also decorated with dragonflies. Bakelite E27 socket.

Height: 75 cm / 29.52”

Width: 40 cm / 15.74”

Depth: 23 cm / 9.05”

Electricity: 1 bulb E27, 1 x 60 watt maximum, 110/220 volt.
Any type of light bulb can be used, not a specific one preferred.

Period: 1970s.

Designer: Sergio Campagnolo – attributed.

Manufacturer: Ceramiche Artistiche R. Costa, Via Col di Grado, 15, 36061 Bassano del Grappa, Italy.

Other versions: This Costa dragonfly table lamp exists in several varieties. Smaller en bigger versions were produced. These lamps are all handmade and hand decorated, none of these lamps are the same.

Costa

Not much information to be found about the company. Costa produced mainly plates, cups, vases and tableware. You can find many examples only. Also this dragonfly decoration with bamboo can be found. The bamboo decoration exists in green and brown. Coffee pots, tea pots, milk jugs, saucers, coffee cups, plates, serving bowls were made with these dragonflies. 

The Costa company was located in Bassano del Grappa, is a city in the Vicenza province, in the Veneto region, in northern Italy. It is some 65 km / 40.38 mi from Venice. It was owned by Sergio Campagnolo. Costa no longer exists. Since 1986 a laboratory analysis and consulting company is located on the address. It is named: Ecoricerche Srl.

Neiman Marcus

The American Neiman Marcus company, an American chain of luxury department stores sold ceramics by Costa. Also this dragonfly decorated ceramics. Costa produced these for the Neiman Marcus company. You can find them with the Neiman Marcus name together with the Costa name glazed in it on the bottom.

VLM Components

The wiring, plug, switch and socket are Italian and they are made by VLM Components from Buccinasco near Milan in the seventies and eighties. The company became famous for the switches they produce since 1968, designed by Achille Castiglioni.

VLM is part of the Relco Group, founded in 1967. Today they are the owners of the brands RelcoLeuciRelco LightingVLM and Segno.
