Adjustable 60s Bedside Table Lamp

Materials: White painted round metal (iron) base. Dark blue painted tubular aluminium light bulb holder. Maroon, burgundy coloured perforated half-round aluminium lampshade, diffuser. Not painted inside. Adjustable in height. Square chrome rod. Chrome ornamental screw and parts. Opal glass lampshade. Bakelite E14 socket.

Base: ∅ 10,7 cm / 4.21”

Electricity: 1 bulb E14, 1 x 40 watt maximum, 110/220 volt.
Any type of light bulb can be used, not a specific one preferred. For this setup a clear round bulb was used.

Period: 1960s, 1970s – Mid-Century Modern.

Other versions: This adjustable 60s bedside table lamp exists in several colours. It was also produced as a wall lamp. This one is not complete and has lost its lampshade. A complete one is shown below.

The design of this table lamp is based on a design of a table lamp by Angelo Lelii for Arredoluce from 1954. It is said that the Dutch company Gispen sold a very similar lamp as the Angelo Lelii table lamp. The Dutch call it “Schuivertje” (small slider). I could not find any proof for it. It is in all probability also made by G.C.M.E. Beware, today (2022) new ones are in production with frosted glass and of course new wiring. Easy to detect. They are made by the Italian company Cattaneo Illuminazione and are all made in chrome. They named it Sùegiò. Corsican for “he followed”, according to Google.

G.C.M.E.

Unfortunately, there is not much to say about the G.C.M.E. company. The website isn’t changed in ages and doesn’t tell anything. The company offers the possibility of making models on request and made to measure. They supply for hotels, restaurants, bars and public places. 

GCME has been operating in the lighting sector for 40 years is written on their website. They produce lighting for civil and industrial lighting. The GCME has a huge exhibition of articles of its own production and of the best brands.
