1960s Swisslamps Desk Lamp

Materials: Round white painted metal base. Long chrome rod. Adjustable chrome rod with an ornamental chrome screw.  Adjustable white painted elongated tubular aluminium lampshade. Some metal parts. E27 socket.

Height: 54 cm / 21.25”

Lampshade: ∅ 19 x 32 cm / 7.48 x 12.59”

Base: ∅ 19 cm / 7.48”

Electricity: 1 bulb E27, 1 x 75 watt maximum, 110/220 volt.
Any type of light bulb can be used, not a specific one preferred.

Period: 1960s, 1970s – Mid-Century Modern.

Designer: SLZ Team.

Manufacturer: Swisslamps International AG, Zürich, Switzerland.

Other versions:  This 1960s Swisslamps desk lamp exists in a few varieties and several colours. The lampshade was used for many other desk lamps, floor lamps and wall lamps.

Swisslamps

Not much information can be found about the Swisslamps International company from Zürich, Switzerland. The company was at least active from the 1950s until the 1980s.

In 2016 Heike Wagner & Dominik Zehnder from Ping Pong in Ennetbaden, Switzerland, bought the company name and a big old stock. They sell and restore old lamps and parts.

Designers that worked for the Swisslamps-International company are, among others: Trix & Robert Haussmann, SLZ Team (Swisslamps Zurich), Laszlo Nigrini, V. Frauenknecht, LAD Team, Peter Hügli, Alfred Halblützel, Rico Baltensweiler and Rosmarie Schwarz (Baltensweiler).

Another company with the name Swisslamps exists. The produce cardboard lamps.

Lamps in the movies

A yellow version of this 1960s Swisslamps desk lamp was used as a prop in the 1978 British film The Playbirds. Starring  Mary MillingtonAlan Lake and Glynn Edwards.
