Alessandro Pianon was born in Venice, Italy in 1931 where he died in 1984. He studied architecture at the Venice University. In 1956 he worked at Vistosi‘s, designing its logo. In 1962 he opened his own design studio.

Vistosi: This spectacular mouth blown bright onion shaped pendant is characteristic of Alessandro’s design vocabulary: simple, geometric shapes and monochrome colours executed in the cased glass technique.

Alessandro Pianon designed this light in 1956, it was made for several years.

This pendant is in a rarely-seen size in a crisp orange. None of these lamps are identical and are all handmade (mouth-blown). This light is an early edition: the 1960s labels of Vistosi and Murano are present.

The Italian Vistosi family has been active in the field of art glass for over 300 years. Fascinated by the aesthetics and production methods of modern design, Gugliemo Vistosi opened his own glass works factory on the Murano island in 1945. By attracting excellent artists like Alessandro Pianon, Angelo Mangiarotti, Gae Aulenti, Peter Pelzel, Ettore Sottsass Jr., Adalberto Dal Lago, Vico MagistrettiEnrico Tronconi and many others the company became a well known name.

Under the guidance of Gino and Luciano Vistosi, Guglielmo’s grandchildren, the Vistosi production starts to focus on lighting items, achieving a considerable success. Whereas Gino’s designs tended to be quite formal, Luciano preferred a more experimental, sculptural approach.

The sole survivor of the original founders, Luciano, dedicated himself to research and glass sculpture until his death in 2010.
